The homestudy agency sent to homestudy to DCFS (a requirement in IL) on March 5th. On April 5th, they heard back, but then they wanted some wording added. So, the homestudy made these changes, but them the adoption agency had to approve it again. Of course, there was the Easter holiday in between all this so that added days as well.
I tried to be proactive and fill out the I800 form, but the I had a question about one section of it and when I asked, the adoption agency said "everything in its time" or something like that.
So, now as I wait for the final, final DCFS approval, I want to get my pictures together. I need 2 sets. Do I glue photos to a piece of paper or do a lay them out and scan them and make a color copy? Do I write captions under each photo? Do they need to be all on one page?

I'm so sorry that your process has been taking so long. I did not put any captions under the photos. I just handed the pictures to the agency. I don't know whether they were scanned by the agency and emailed to Poland or if they were shipped there. I only sent pictures of us and our house, so there was no need to explain anything in a caption.
ReplyDeleteI hope everything goes faster from this point on. I too tried to start the I800 form. I really think your agent is right. There is SO much information that you don't have yet. Just fill what you know for now & wait for the rest. I'm hoping I can fill ours out next week. We're still waiting for info.
Oh, wait...are you talking about the I800a or I800? Either way, the I800a doesn't take long to fill out. Just do what you know.
It is frustrating when things get sent back, changed, and sent back again. I had to ask my doctor three times to fill out our physical paperwork because she kept doing it wrong. Finally I just filled in the information myself and had her sign it. It was really frustrating. Little did I know that it was the beginning of a long line of mild frustrations. My advice is to remain flexible and remember that these little trip ups (how ever frustrating at the time) are needed to ensure that you are placed with the child that you are meant to be placed with. I couldn't imagine being placed with any other child, and if we weren't delayed (the whole process took us 2 1/2 years) we would never have found our son. I wouldn't trade our furstrations during the adoption process for him in a second.
ReplyDeleteCan we help you with the question you have?
For what it's worth I made very simple scrapbook type pages, a few pics with captions on each page & just made 2 sets. They were fine with the agecy (we used St Mary's). It does get frustrating with all of the government agencies & all of the docs, but it's worth every moment of stress!! My funny document story (not funny then)...husband was born in Germany to American parents, father in Air Force. They don't issue normal birth certificates, so we had to write to DC for a copy of that form proving when & where he was born. Then after I received this form I had to mail it back to DC, to the building right next door to have it appostilled.....even though it was issued by the Sec of State!!!!! Crazy :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, the paperwork can be very frustrating. I just sent the pictures in an envelope. I put dates on the ones of us, and then put a label for all the pictures of our house and yard.
ReplyDeleteUgh, that extra DCFS approval was so annoying! For our pictures, I just labeled the back, as I sent some with our extended family.
