Passports

My last post was September 23rd, so I guess we have been waiting about 5 month. Today we finally applied for passports for our 3 boys. It was very difficult to get me, my husband, and all three children to the post office during regular business hours all at the same time! Today is Casmir Pulaski Day and here in Chicago it is a holiday for school (we are teachers), so it was the perfect day to apply for the passports. How ironic that it was thanks to a Polish war hero that we all had the day off!!

We still haven't decided if we will bring the kids with us to Poland, but in 6 weeks, we will at least have the option. My passport will expire in October, so I am mailing mine in later today for renewal. Glad I noticed the expiration date today!

A recent pic of our current family.... for now...

  1. Wyn, it's nice to read a new post from you and see an updated family picture!:) It's funny, I was just going to blog about the question of bringing our boys too. Although we have passports for everyone, we are now leaning towards having them stay home. Logistically, it's just a lot to plan, pack and figure out...let alone pay for with the plane tickets. That's what has been going through our minds anyway. I will be curious to see what you decide and hope that you hear some good news soon!

  2. It is good to see an update from you. Your boys are adorable. It is a big decision trying to decide whether or not to take your other kids. We are taking our daughter with us, but we only have one child right now. If we had more than one the decision would be a lot harder. We also do not have any family near by that she could stay with anyway.

  4. Great to hear from you! Your time in Poland will be like no other time in your life and being able to fully bond together is a time you will never forget. With that being said, traveling together as a complete family would be pretty special, but so would be devoting all your energy for 8 weeks to your newest family member! Either way, it's going to be awesome!

  5. At least you have the option once passports are in hand.

There are so many pros and cons of taking the kids or not that you have to do what you think works for your kids and your family. I think it depends on the age of the kids, the issues you are facing, etc.

    Good luck

  6. Timely --- we just spent the better part of last Saturday in the passport office ourselves. It certainly is tricky to get everyone in one place at one time.

You will really appreciate having the option of bringing your kids. I agree with Martha - both options would be very special. We were lucky that Grandma was willing and able to bring our bio son for the last two weeks of our trip. It was important for us that he be able to see our Chris in Poland. I think it made it more real for him.

Glad you noticed your expiration date! They can really sneak up on you. :)

  7. Great to hear from you and I agree, your boys are darling! The baby has really grown! Having passports on hand for everyone is a wise decision when embarking on a journey such as this! It's a good idea to have all the bases covered! Here's to hoping you hear some news soon!

  8. A great step in the right direction. I can't imagine applying (and paying) for passports for a family of 5. It seemed hard enough for my husband and I to get it done. Yes, a very symbolic day to take a step closer to your time in Poland.
